Why aren't u using a larger tail rotor?
Isn't it so the larger the rotor the more air it moves? If u have a bigger rotor the engine doesn't have to spin as hard as with a little one.

Not really correct.

If you have a bigger prop, the motor does not have to turn as fast, but it has to work a LOT harder to swing the prop around. These motors are MADE to spin fast, and they get severely overheat if you use a big prop.  :130:
This has everything to do with KV ratings. That is how much RPM a motor spins on one volt. So if that is high (like 2000kv), the motor is made to turn fast, and have a small prop with small pitch. With low kv this is the opposite.

Note: KV does not mean for KiloVolt, but it means RPM/volt.  :130:

Ah ok that makes sense. What is the KV of the CP3 motor?
Lol I'm holding a WK-WS-12-003 11000KV motor in my hand :p that thing probably spins very very fast.

Don't know the CP3 motor's kv, but it isn't very important to know. I would just use the stock prop, and that works without trouble.

wooot, 11000kv is A LOT!

:215: Well what a dumb :censored:, The parts for the DD tail mod arrived so I quickly got on with removing the stock tail motor and installing the new motor. No problems, a real easy mod to do. I then proceeded to clip the larger heat sink onto the new motor and, as I did the heat sink cut through both tail motor wires.  :bash_2: what a  :censored1:
I'm now waiting for replacement wires :slaphead:

Can't you solder them back together?  Or splice in other wires if these are now to short?  Seems to me a solder joint and some heat shrink ought to fix them right up.

 :hi: Dave  :hi: boykintom

I did try and solder them back together but the wires only just reached the solder points on the larger motor and weren't long enough to avoid the heat sink, then my gas soldering iron started playing up and wouldn't heat up properly, after a little temper tantrum that ended up in bits and in the bin :angry_2:.

All sorted now though, I bought myself an electric soldering iron earlier and got some wire from my brother who is an electrician. :130:

I haven't been able to test fly yet cause of the wind here today but I did spool up and noticed I have got some vibration from the new tail motor that vibrates canopy, I don't think it's enough to affect flight it just sounds awful. any ideas why the tail motor would vibrate? I have checked that everything is screwed up tight and nothing is loose.

Can you post a video of what it is doing PGC?

Something you can do is to remove the rotor head and the tail blade and spin it up and check for vibrations, if it goes away then maybe check for a cracked tail blades or badly out of balance, also make sure that you do not have something vibrating up front making it seem like that tail is vibrating.... Also make sure that the blade is not too loose on the shaft and causing a vibration....   Good luck and let us know..... :130:

 :hi: Dave

I did what you suggested and removed the rotor head and tail blade and spooled up and there was no vibration, when I replaced the tail blade thats when the vibration started. checking the tail blade I found the the little screw at the front wasn't tightened up enough causing the vibration.  :130:

 :thank-you: you're good at this.

Hey, guys!

I've been out a bit, but it looks like you all have stayed active.  I see Dave is still at it and busy helping those getting started.  You may see me more often since I am about to get the bird ready to fly again.  I found it while cleaning out the closet.   I haven't tried to fly anything for a while now.  I spent time and money on the technical diving hobby, but now I am ready to make use of my heli.

Take care,
