Weekly RC News 19th sep - 27th sep
« on: September 20, 2010, 05:30:42 PM »
hey guys been real busy so ive not had much time to go digging for news this week so far but here's probably what's been on the lips of the RC world the past few days the launch of the spektrum dx8i

Spektrum innovation gives RC pilots a new level of security and ease-of-use with the DX8. In addition to providing the benefits of Spektrum’s patent-pending DSM2 technology, the DX8 introduces advances in software, telemetry and ergonomics you simply won’t find in any other 8-channel system.

The DX8 is Spektrum’s first aircraft system that incorporates integrated telemetry. The transmitter’s screen displays real-time telemetry including receiver battery voltage, flight log data and signal quality. External sensors allow rpm, external voltage and temperature to be displayed on screen in real time. Alarms can be programmed to warn of low battery, over temperature, exceeded rpm and diminished RF signal strength.

The DX8 offers sophisticated programming to meet the demands of even the most experienced airplane and helicopter pilots. An easy-to-use rolling selector combined with intuitive software makes setting up models quick and easy. The DX8 is SD-card compatible allowing an infinite number of models to be stored and transferred. Plus firmware updates can be downloaded from the web providing you with the latest software upgrades at the click of a mouse.

Lowest price found in the UK was £299.99 with 30% off

Seen this bad boy at IRCHA  :220:  I do not like the click wheel, but I do like the ability to download your profiles and back them up!  It is also supposed to have a feature you can enable to vibrate the TX in your hand when the batt reaches a certain level  :130:

I'm used to the click roller from the DX6i. This DX8i seems like a great follow on.

Barn floor has it for something like $350 with an ar8200 which includes some of the telemetry modules. The 8200 is over $100 by itself and the telemetry modules cost a few bucks for each one, so it's only like $200 for the transmitter, which doesn't seem that bad.

I don't want the first one they ship, but i think i do want to get one eventually.

I was saving my bucks to get a DX7 but now I think that I'll wait for a little to get this beauty.  :130:

Yeah, true that on holding off on the early adoption!  I am always cautious of the very first run of any electronics product, and never the first to upgrade software.  For $200 the DX8 would be well worth it just for the feature of being able to back up your profiles.  I mean, for me, I got about 15 helis programmed into my DX7 and if it puked, it would take me weeks to set it back up!
