Tried Phoenix Simulator, harder than real life
« on: January 31, 2010, 08:27:02 PM »
My LHS guys wanted me to try his sim. He has Phoenix running on a laptop in the store. So I thought I'd give it a try, I'm not a sim guy. I'd rather fly real ones with the limited time I have to dedicate.

But I've read lots of threads about sims and one thing that keeps coming up is people saying the sim is too easy compared to really flying.

But I found just the opposite. With the sim I had no real depth perception. I also found the heli would move away from me and get really small really fast and I'd lose it in the trees.

While I can easily hover my B400 for quite a while, even with a bit of wind, in the sim I couldn't go more than 30 seconds without crashing it.

And originally the sim was a TREX 500. I not only couldn't control it, but I chopped myself to pieces multiple times.

The good news is after about 20 minutes of playing I flew the B400 up high and flipped it over, flew upside down for a second, flipped it again and managed to get it back on the ground without destroying it. Amazing what you can do if you don't give a crap if you crash. Might be worth buying a sim just for that alone.

Sounds like the sim I need!   :130:
I don't always fly a good gyro, but when I do, I prefer Vbar...Stay inverted my friends!

Heh, according to their web site it ships with a Spektrum compatible cable.

I used it with the DX7 at the store.

I stopped with the sim as it was to hard for me.
I can do all kind of crazy 3D stuff but a normal hover is out of the question.
So I retitred simming and started with new learning physics.

I think my computer was not up to the sim  :134:
