Howdy all,

I fell into a "used" DX7 over the weekend. It's a long story but I got it for absolutely free as the condition is unknown.

On the back of the unit around to the left of the Bind/Range Test box and down into the Model Label is cracked like it was dropped or something.

Looking at the back of the TX, the left side of the Battery Bay was shattered and gone. Found out that it really was like 3 big pieces and lots of little pieces (all inside the radio). The Right side of the Battery Bay was severely cracked (about to be gone). The battery door did not snap on correctly on the right side.

Anyway...I took the radio home, dissected it, and started going nuts with CA Glue (Locktite brand). I successfully reconstructed the left side of the battery bay and reinforced the right side of the battery bay. I also reinforced the inside of the "puncture" crack mentioned first up above.

I gave it overnight to let the CA dry real good and reassembled everything.

I suppose here's a good place to insert that I'm a complete newbie to the Heli world. I bought Phoenix used with a DX5e (craiglist - $50!). I've been SIM'ing a lot but mostly the Blade MSR and MCX. I found a used CX3 on ebay and have been flying it with the DX5e. Long story but the CX3 is currently decommissioned.

So...all that to ask this - being Heli-less, how can I test out this DX7 to see if everything is working as it should be? I know nothing about programmable TXs but I'm learning. I did set up a Phoenix Model on the TX and went at it in Phoenix. It works great for what I know. Just not sure how to see if everything else on it is working right.

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

While not "flyable" at the current...I do have the CX3 internals - can I use those to do some testing on the DX7?  Do I need something more advanced to test with?

Dug the CX3 out.  After getting over the shock factor of the fact that it tried to attack my son (another thread)....looking at the CX3 again...the damage wasn't quite as bad as I thought it was.  I think I'm going to repair it and try again...but anyway...point being...I bound the the DX7 to the CX3 Receiver and 3-in-1 and everything I tested worked.

I'm still open to anyone that can teach me about the DX7 and what I should test/try and how.

On another forum some suggested I trash the DX7 since I don't know it's history and it appears it's been dropped (due to the casing damage I spoke about).  I have a very hard time believe there isn't something I can do to test it out and verify what works and what doesn't.

Seems to control the CX3...and Phoenix (though that's via trainer port).

So I've had the DX7 and CX3 going multiple times without issue now.  I know that's not fulling testing hte functionality of the DX7 but I'm quite excited that it seems to be working right.  I'll keep everyone posted...

dx7 works nice with AR7000, and said AR7000 can interface with Flight-log ($29 from spektrum IIRC) and do rangetest on it. that will tell you if the radio works fine.
any other than that, probly some plane and try to fly it...

Finally got some pictures uploaded of the TX...

Front View - no damage to be seen.

Back Side - reinforced crack with CA on the inside.

Cracked battery Cover - reinforced with CA

Battery Compartment Side - this side was just severely cracked - but not busted out yet - reinforced with CA

This side was busted out and in pieces inside the TX.  Rebuilt with CA
