IS IT GONNA FLY!!!???
« on: April 22, 2012, 08:05:18 AM »
Hey Guys, So, i took my clone out this past week. And crashed!! Not hard. But, i did break the seesaw arm inside the flybar cage. I did some debating on wheather to swap out my clone head with the head from my HK450. Or order and wait. Decided to swap. No biggy! Got the swap all done without to much hastle. ( always have a little trouble getting the gear hole and the shaft hole to line up. ) Anyway, i go to install the flybar. Only one problem! It appears that i was sent a flybarless head! The kit came with a flybar and paddles. But, the cage has screws, in the holes that the flybar should go thru. I pulled one of the screws out and tried to put the flybar thru. But, the hole is treaded, of course. I guess i'm just wondering if this bird is still going to fly?? I know it is probably a dumb question!! Just looking for some piece of mind that it will still fly. Thanks for any input guys!!

Umm, an FBL head would not have the cage/supports for a flybar to go into ..
In fact that entire flybar part of the head would be completely removed.

Do you have a link or some pic of the Head you are talking about ?

Hey SJ, Lookie there!!...i figured it out!!  :excited: The quality is bad. But, as you can see, there is a flybar cage. But, no way to put a flybar in. The threads on the flybar they sent. Are the same threads that the screw in the end of the cage has. So, even if i try to thread it thru. It stops where the threads stop on the flybar! It's got me baffled! I know what you are saying as far as not needing the cage if the is no flybar! What do you think??

I think where ever you bought the head from have screwed you over  :angry_2:

This is definetly a Flybar Head and when they put the screws in, they stuffed it.
You could try a small drill to open the holes up so the FB will go through.
Or send it back if thats an option and get a new one.

But, at the same time thinking about the flybar delema. When it hit me! ( here's the stupid part ) Without the flybar. This bird only goes up and down. DUH!! So, what the he_ _ is up with this head set-up??!! Am i going to have to drill out the cage and cage holder? So i can get the flybar thru! Looks to me like i have no choice!

Hey SJ, Sure is messed up isn't it? As you can see, drilling is what i was thinking! At this point i don't remember who i bought it from. I was buying pieces parts from all over. I will say this head seems to be smoother than the other one. Anyway, i guess we'll be drilling for oil, and see what we come up with. I'll keep ya posted!

Take both screws out.  This is normal for clone heads as the screws keep the bearings in place during shipping.  Also before you try to insert the cougar make sure the set screws are backed out in the flybar cage so the flybar can slide through.  Some of the clone heads have a top and bottom set screw on each side.

I completely agree take the set screws out and slid flybar through be carefull not to loose the little washers when you do it

Yep, the heads I get from HK come with screws in the flybar holes, but you need to back out the set screws, then you can just pull the placholder screws out and slide your flybar in.  You probably would not be able to control the heli without the flybar because you do not have a flybarless electronic unit to compensate for the absence of the flybar.  Not something I would suggest you try anyway.  Converting to flybarless is not as simple as just removing the flybar.
