Battery upgrade
« on: March 07, 2012, 07:05:29 AM »
I am using the stock esky battery 11.1v 1800mHa 2mHa0 battery, with the stock esky 0.8A balance charger, can I use a 2300mHa 30c battery with my setup or do I have to change anything on my Helli and with my charger?

What heli and ESC?

The charger shouldnt be an issue, it will just take forever to charge the bigger battery.

You need to be sure that increasing the Amps is ok with your ESC. If you post the heli someone should know the spec.  :130:

It's the belt cp v2, with stock esc, I know the stock esc has a bad history.

In that case id change the ESC then. I think some people have had them fail with the stock battery, so upping the amps is asking for trouble.  :130:

Mate, if you can find a 2300mAh battery that fits the Belt CPv2 and is not to heavy .. Go For It !! ..

Recommend trashing the Esky ESC though .. Almost everyone you mention it to, will say the same thing ..
Those things are fire hazzards at the best of times, pumping power though it for a longer duration (2300mAh) is just adding fuel to the fire.

The charger ..
Charging a 2300mAh battery with the stock Esky 0.8mAh charger will take around 4-6hrs ..
Again, recommend getting yourself a much better charger ..
I have 6x 2200mAh batteries and use one of these with an adapter and it takes about 2hrs to have them all charged up at the same time.
For around $23 .. Charger http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__7028__Turnigy_Accucel_6_50W_6A_Balancer_Charger_w_accessories.html
For Around $15 .. Adapter http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16564__Parallel_Balance_charging_Board_for_6_packs_2_6S_XT60_.html

Of course you will need to find the adapter that has the correct plugs for your batteries.
I found it easier though, to simply change the connections on the different batteries to all the same type.

 :hi:

For a 450 size heli (BCPV2) most people run 3S 2200mah 20-30C.  The higher the "C" rating the more expensive the battery is.  Purchase the highest "C" rating you can afford since that's what will determine the discharge rate  :130:

I would get at least a 50W charger to speed up the time.  With my AC6 I can charge my 3S 2200mah in 40mins......@ 1C rate (2.2amp).
With the stock esky charger, it'll take a very LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time to charge  :laugh25:

Aloha

Yes, most people will use 3S 2200mah 25C batt for 450 heli.
If you think you're going to get a bigger heli, better not get a 50W charger. 50W charger can only charge at max. 4.5A for 2200mah batt (50w/11.1v=4.5a). It means you can roughly charge 2200mah batt at 2C (2200mah=2.2A). I think Turnigy NanoTech is able to be charge at 5C.
If you're thinking of getting a 500e heli, it normally use 3300mah 6S batt. With 50w charger, you can only charge at 2.25A (50w/22.2v=2.25a). So you will charging it in less than 1C.
But, that is just me. Try to avoid buying more than 1 charger. Now I have 2 chargers, because the first one is only 50W. I didn't know at that time what the Watt is related to.
