Got RealFlight and LOVE it!
« on: January 09, 2012, 09:27:27 PM »
I got a hold of Real Flight 4.5 and have been practicing with it tonight.  It is SOOOOO much better than FMS.  FMS is great since it's free but nothing like Real Flight.  I like the training videos and helps.  I can't really comment on the realism since I haven't yet flown a 4ch FP or a 6ch CP but it's much harder than FMS so I assume that means it's much more real.

:lolol: :lolol: Yes harder does in this case mean more realistic.
Yeah the difference between the two is like night and day. FMS is great for people to work out if they want to get into the hobby and see just how it all works, but IMO after you've worked out that you're still interested it's time to get a better sim.
Clearview is pretty good for a step up to see just how hard it gets and to practice, but if you want the real experience then yeah get any one of the top sims. RealFlight/Phoneix/AreoFly etc.
The thing I like is you can also go online to fly with others around the world. I found out I'm no where near as bad as I thought compared to some I've seen online.  :lolol: :lolol:
Cheers
Andrew.

I'll have to try out the multiplayer sometime...sounds pretty cool.  I spent three hours last night just hovering 2 feet off the ground on the sim.   :215:

It's much harder than I thought it would be...even though I've heard people talk about how hard it is.  I was getting the hang of it though.  I know it will take time.  I figure if I can get pretty descent with a 3D heli in the sim, I may be ok to fly a real 4ch when Esky finally gets the Bees back in stock.  :220:  It's a good thought anyway!

I'm using the Impala .30...is there a different one I should be using?  I have the difficulty turned all the way up and making the simulation as real as possible.

i work at the lhs and we have both the real flight and phoenix sim for demmo's
either one of the 2 is an excellent choice to get
but in my opinion the phoenix is better,,
i have been flying for almost 29 years and i think it is more realistic
the new real flight g6 is the best one to get as far as this brand goes
but none the less both are an excellent choice

Sorry, I never heard of that model. (I use Phoenix so the model list is not the same)  But the .30 part sounds like a nitro rather than electric. FP or CP? In any case, you'll want to practice with something that's more or less in the same ballpark as what you are flying or what you intend to fly. Which may be the Impala .30, I don't know.

Yes, it's a nitro, 6ch, CP.  They only have ONE option for electric and I don't really like it.  I figured if I can get stable with a CP, I should be able to do the same with a FP.  Maybe my assumption is incorrect but I'm going with what I have.   I installed Phoenix but I can't get it to work with my TX.

Actually, most CP helis are easier to fly than FPs. So if you master the CP in the sim, you may be a little surprised at the handling of the FP in real life, but nothing tragic.

When you buy Phoenix, along with the Dongle required to make it work, they should give you the option to get one cable which is compatible with your TX. Although not every TX is supported.

From the Phoenix web site;

Phoenix is supplied with its own USB interface which must be connected to the training port of a compatible radio/transmitter in order to successfully control the simulated models. Some makes/models of radio may require an extra adaptor. A full list of compatible radios can be found below:

• All JR MC/MX (no adaptor required) - ** MC-series requires "DSC Interface" Accessory **

    • Spektrum DX6 / DX6i / DX7 / DX8 / DSX9 / DSX10 (no adaptor required) - ** NOT new DX7 Special Edition "SE" version **

• Spektrum DX5e older-style with SIDE training port ("DX5e adaptor" required)

• Spektrum DX5e new-style with REAR training port (no adaptor required)

• All Futaba ("Futaba/Hitec round" or "Futaba square" adaptor required)

• Futaba FX-18 with 2.5mm stereo training port ("Futaba FX-18" adaptor required)

• Hitec Aurora (no adaptor required)

• All Hitec except "Aurora" ("Futaba/Hitec adaptor" required - "Aurora" requires no adaptor)

• All Multiplex ("Multiplex" adaptor required)

• All Sanwa RD and RDS series ("Sanwa adaptor" required)

• E-sky ETB41 2.4 ghz (no adaptor required)

• Other E-sky ("Mini-DIN adaptor" required)

Right now, I'm using the USB RC Tech simulator TX so it doesn't work with Phoenix.  I still have the program so maybe sometime I'll get a TX that works with it.  For now, I just like to watch the training videos on it.

It's good that you are training on the sim. When I first got my training trasmitter(usb only) I would crash all the time on the sim. I'm so grateful I read here to use a sim, otherwise I would've crashed my heli a dozen more times in the beginning  :125:

Well, so much for my sim training...gonna have to put that on hold for a week.  My computer power supply went out on me last night so I've spent all day getting info off the HDD and set up on a temporary PC until I can get the new power supply in.  My temp computer isn't good enough to run Real Flight so I guess I'll have to put it on hold.   :212:
